Hello guys, here is my latest mod for SMF : Facebook Connect 4 SMF

This mod allows bridging your forum with facebook, IOW it allows your members to link their accounts with the ones of facebook. It also simplifies registration by giving them an option of one-click registration via Facebook.

Feature list :

• Allows users to be registered using there facebook accounts
• Users can link their existing SMF accounts with their facebook accounts
• Users can log-in using their facebook accounts
• Users can get the notifications from the forum in their facebook accounts
• Users can sync their buddy list with there facebook account, which will add all the members from their buddy list, also a part of the forum, to his/her buddy list

One question....

If an SMF member login using FC, will it use the SMF name or Facebook's name?

Will they have 2 profiles?

They can link there existing accounts from there profiles, thus they will have only one account. They can log into SMF either way and the details will be same.

Also, what are the advantages a user gets by connecting an existing SMF account to their facebook profile? How does the "sync buddies" feature work? What information from SMF can be posted on facebook once the accounts are linked?

It already clashes with SMF itself, on certain versions.......

None. It just has a Facebook icon in the user details next to messages. It links to your FB account profile.

I myself have been interested in doing a free FB mod for some time but Dragooon did it before me. What I was interested in was not in doing a mod for logging in, but a mod for retrieving user status and other things like that. I'm guessing I should make a completely different mod or something, since I won't make a free mod that requires a pay-for mod as a basis (see what I mean?)...

Sorry Dragooon, but without any more features, I don't think that mod is worth $20. Maybe $10, but really at most. You should consider adding (many) more features. I'm ready to help if you set up a private SVN for your source code as well.

How does the "sync buddies" feature work?

I guess it will check other users on the board who have linked to their FB account. If one of them is in your buddy list on FB, it will add them to your buddy list on SMF. Meaning you'll have to resync from time to time to get new friends or something.

What information from SMF can be posted on facebook once the accounts are linked?

None.

Note that I plan on adding some features to this mod, but currently Nao quite said it except the version clashing part(I fixed it...).

@Manual changes for custom themes - You need to modify index.template to add the FBConnect link along with edits in Display.template and Profile.template(If you're theme has them).

Currently there maybe none, except that the user can receive all there e-mail notifications in there Facebook profile.

For you maybe not, but many people need this feature for there forums(And I believe you already know that), this helps in giving quite a good boost in there members. Ofcourse I will try to add features and keep everyone happy, but it is not bad as it is. You are free to help, but my SVN server is playing up...it isn't allowing me to make new repos so I can't arrange new repository for this mod as of now.

No. You must not take anything for granted. It is still a big "IF".
