googlebot test for mobile view
« on: April 01, 2015, 08:03:36 pm »
Any idea why a test using https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/   returns an unfriendly to my site even though I am using this theme? Is it because I am using an older version?

I don't think you want to ignore google in this case if you don't want to lose your search rankings. April 21st they will be implementing their new algorithms designed to benefit mobile friendly sites and penalize those that are not. using this theme is certainly mobile friendly, there must be a way to direct google to "seeing" it.

I agree.  Telling people they shouldn't listen to Google is like telling a religious person not to listen to God.  Google is the god of the Internet.  You must appease both Google and humans, not just one or the other.  Like driving a car, you have to appease the law (Google) and pedestrians, or you'll no longer be able to drive.  Trust me, that's how it is with Google.

I really want to buy SMF4MOBILE for our forums, but because Google can't even load it.  At least it can load my current ones.  I guess I need to look for other forum software to replace SMF.  :(

Google requires a slight modification to the headers served, I'll post the change after testing it

EDIT: I posted a test change in the custom area forums in case anyone wants to try it

Is it possible to share this fix among all users? I bought this theme couple of years ago, but since then there was no major updates so I dropped subscription.

Custom area forums? Where can we find that.
Never mind. I have found it (account was expired).
However, the provided change didn't work.

I tried it, but it didn't solve the problem.
The test says it can't get the page. Probably because some cookie problems.

Same happens on this forum (smf-media):

This site seems to test fine now, as does mine. :D

Don't know what version you have installed, but I just installed the latest version of smf4mobile myself today.
